In collaboration with the International Labor Organization and the Ministry of Administrative Development Labor and Social Affairs, Qatar International Cables Company held its election of Workers Representatives for the joint committee last July 15, 2019 in its Mesaieed Plant & Doha Sales office.

QICC is one of the companies who successfully piloted the election of Joint Committee Workers Representative. More than 130 employees participated and casted their votes to their chosen candidates.

Winners were proclaimed last July 16, 2019. Elected Workers Representative of the Joint Committee namely, Nishaj Markkarakath, Justice Idun and Muddassir Ali Syed will all have 2 years term from 2019 – 2021. The Committee will meet once a month to discuss workers issues and bring an immediate resolution by direct communication to Management.

With the newly elected Workers Representatives, we expect changes in the flow of our communication since the Joint Committee will be the right channel for the management and workers representatives to share, discuss and resolve issues together. it is expected to strengthen the communication and working relationship between employer and employee by keeping all employees abreast with all the relevant information they need for the job especially on topics of productivity, sales turnover, training, employment regulations, health and safety.

QICC encourages other employers to setup their own Joint Committees too since it is a great opportunity to broaden the aspect of communication by breaking the barriers between Management and employees bringing employees and management closer together to work on proactively if there is any issue. Improved communication for the betterment of work conditions is the right step to productivity and advancement.
